Final Public Update on Dillberry Lake Provincial Park Incident

Municipal District of Wainwright No. 61 is issuing a final public update regarding the severe weather incident at Dillberry Lake Provincial Park.

The scene has now been turned over to Alberta Parks. The campground is closed until further notice, and all questions regarding access, recovery, campground status, and reopening should now be directed to Alberta Parks at 780-672-7274.

The Municipal District of Wainwright No. 61 extends sincere thanks to all responders and partner agencies for their rapid response, professionalism, proper information sharing, and hard work. RCMP, fire services, EMS, Search and Rescue, Alberta Sheriffs, provincial partners, and supporting personnel worked quickly and collaboratively to protect lives, assist those affected, and manage a complex emergency situation.

We also thank campers, residents, and community members for their cooperation, patience, and support throughout the response.

Once again, experiencing a severe weather event can be overwhelming, frightening, and life-changing. If you have been affected, it is normal to experience a range of emotions, including shock, anxiety, sadness, anger, confusion, or difficulty sleeping. These reactions are common responses to an abnormal and stressful situation.

Please remember:

  • Your safety and well-being matter.
  • It is okay to ask for help and support.
  • Stay connected with family, friends, neighbors, or community organizations whenever possible.
  • Take care of your basic needs, including rest, hydration, nutrition, and any necessary medications.
  • Limit exposure to distressing news and social media if it increases your stress.
  • Give yourself and others grace as everyone copes differently.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, or struggling to cope, reach out immediately to a mental health professional, crisis line, emergency services, or a trusted support person. Government of Alberta mental health support is available at 211.

Take care of yourself, check on others, and know that support is available.

Further updates on campground operations will be provided by Alberta Parks.
