Strychnine Update – July 14, 2026

Due to the combination of how late in the season it is, current lush conditions, and the extremely limited product availability, it has been decided that the M.D. will not be retailing any strychnine in 2026.
We understand this is disappointing news but hope you understand the challenges that come with a roll out of a program like this. We remain hopeful that the 2027 season will look entirely different and expect to have an appropriate supply available to be in a position to utilize it within the optimal application window in early spring.
Thank you again for your patience, cooperation, and to those who proactively completed the stewardship training. Your commitment to responsible use is appreciated.
Roadside Mowing Underway
Roadside Mowing will commence in the M.D. of Wainwright on July 8. Only designated M.D. roads will be mowed, as the focus is on hard surfaced roads and heavily-used municipal gravel roads.
View the 2026 Mowing Map here. Please note that permits are not required to hay municipal ditches and mowing contractors will respect any existing swaths, but be aware that the miles in the contract are set and will be mowed as per the contractors schedule. No accommodations will be made. Any bales must be removed from the M.D. right of way within 24 hours of baling.

We appreciate the proactive steps taken by local producers to be prepared to participate in the strychnine rollout, and the patience as we await further information on product availability and distribution.
