Report Sightings of Franklins Ground Squirrels to Support Citizen Science Initiative

Nature Alberta is looking for YOUR help in this citizen science initiative!

Currently, the status of Franklin’s ground squirrels in the province is undetermined due to insufficient data. This project began in 2022, and each year we continue to collect more information to help determine whether this species is in decline.

Wainwright and Dillberry is located in a region of Alberta where Franklin’s ground squirrels have been reported in the past, or may still be present, so we would greatly appreciate it if you could help us spread the word.

We are encouraging anyone who observes a Franklin’s ground squirrel to take a photograph and submit it through iNaturalist, a free app that allows observations to be shared with researchers and conservationists. Every observation helps improve our understanding of this species and contributes valuable information for future conservation efforts.
