FULL TIME ROAD STABILIZATION / OILING FOREMAN

The M.D. of Wainwright is inviting applications for a full-time Road Stabilization/Oiling Foreman. Duties include overseeing the safe and efficient operation of the stabilization crew and operating a self-propelled motor grader to perform rough and fine grading, accurately spread and mix materials to prepare road surfaces, and ensure precise grade specifications. The Foreman also mixes and applies cold mix for dust control or road resurfacing, reconditions existing road surfaces, and organizes crews for calcium dust control, road oiling, and cement stabilization processes. Additionally, the Foreman directs the operation of supporting equipment, including packers, tractors, water trucks, and contracted on-site equipment.

Skills & Responsibilities

  • Operate the grader and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner, maintaining proper awareness of one’s surroundings while operating the grader on public roadways;
  • Working knowledge of methods, techniques, and equipment required for base and sub-base surfaces.  Experience with cement stabilization and cold mix application is an asset;
  • Precisely operate the grader blade to windrow gravel to the center of the road;
  • Operate grader controls to regulate the height and angle of the grader blade and lower to loosen packed soil to permit grading;
  • Working knowledge of base, grades, and granular related materials;
  • Train new employees in the safe and efficient operation of the grader;
  • Knowledge of graders and other heavy equipment;
  • Knowledge of issues involving ground disturbance;
  • Understanding grades and interpreting roadway plans and drawings;
  • Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes, and industry requirements;
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Code and related regulations;
  • Must be willing to work across the MD of Wainwright and use the shop in Wainwright as the starting point for each day.

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience within the road construction industry.
  • A minimum of 2–3 years’ experience operating a grader is required.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
  • Class 5 driver’s license; clean driver’s abstract.
  • GPS knowledge is required.
