Goal: To develop and deliver collaborative environmental stewardship initiatives that result in sustainable growth in Alberta's farm, ranch and agri-food processing industry.

Projects: Nutrient Management Plans, Grazing Plans, Forage Recommendations, Site Inspections, Riparian Assessments and Enhancement, Crop Plans, Chemical Rotations, Insect and Disease Diagnosis Crop Walks, Tours, Meetings, Trials, Newsletters, Radio Updates, Environmental Farm Plans

2. EFP - Environmental Farm Plans

The Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) is a comprehensive approach to farm risk assessment and management practice change for sustainable growth. The EFP Binder helps farmers identify their environmental strengths and prioritize any concerns, then assist them in setting realistic goals.

The M.D. of Wainwright is a Delivery Agent for the Environmental Farm Plan Company. The Assistant Agricultural Fieldman is a trained Technical Assistant for the Farm Plan Binder.

 

3. 100 Year Farm Family Award

The 100 Year Farm Family Award is presented in recognition of our rural families that have farmed on their original homestead for 100 years. Application forms are available at all Town Offices within the M.D. of Wainwright. The family receives a metal plaque (24" x 12") and Municipal plaque commemorating this historic achievement.

4. Municipal District of Wainwright Calendar Photo Contest

Members of the municipality are encouraged to send photos that capture the diversity of our agriculture, the environment and the landscapes surrounding us. The photograghs are to be selected and published in a 13-month calendar featuring photos, tips, facts, and information on sustainable agriculture and the environment. The 13 photos chosen will each be awarded one hundred dollars ($100.00) each.

Pictures are selected from each category based on a panel of judges. Photos are judged on the merits of clarity and quality, the best capture of the category selected and the unique perspective of the photo(s).

5. PFRA Prairie Shelterbelt Program

The Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada-PFRA promotes the environmental and economic benefits of agroforestry systems such as shelterbelts, riparian buffers, silvopasture and alley cropping. This is done through research, technology transfer and the provision of tree and shrub seedlings to Prairie Farms through the Prairie Shelterbelt Program.

6. AAAF Memorial Bursary

The Association of Alberta Agricultural Fieldman, as an ongoing tribute to active or retired AAAF members who pass away, and in the spirit of continuing education valued by our Association, created the AAAF Memorial Bursary.

The bursary is intended for students continuing their education at a College or University. Students must be enrolled in an agricultural or environmental science program. One $500 bursary is available to a student that lives in the North East region.
